Aspen at Lutherwood
Aspen is a 10-week social skills training group for youth between the ages of 12-17 years with a diagnosis on the Autism Spectrum, including Asperger's Syndrome, High Functioning Autism, Pervasive Developmental Disorder (PDD), and selected clients with a Non-Verbal Learning Disability. Learn social skills while having FUN!!!

1. The ASPEN group accomodates youth between the ages of 12-18
2. There is NO COST to participate in this group
3. The maximum number of group participants is 6 with 2 group facilitators!

The next ASPEN group will be held on July 4-7, 2011.
Hurry and submit your referral to the Front Door. This group offers families respite and your child/youth the opportunity to make friends, practice new social skills and most of all have fun.

Fun was had by all ASPEN group members.
During the March Break ASPEN group the kids learned about; activities that help to calm you down and pump you up, manners, body language, how to make friends and how to enter into conversations without interupting.
They participated in the following activities; eating out at a buffet restaurant, rock climbing, painting pottery and bowling. The group discusses topics or role plays in the morning and then they go out into the community to practice what they have learned in the afternoon.

Interested in having your son/daughter (age 12-17) attend a social skills group specifically designed for those diagnosed with ASD?
Please contact the Front Door 519 749 8740 and complete the referral form (parents, teachers, social workers etc. can refer). The identified youth will be placed on a waiting list and contacted once a space becomes available.
Youth often request to attend the group over and over again, unfortunately they are able to access this group once only.

Researchers at the Offord Centre for Child Studies are working to improve early detection and intervention so that children with ASD and their families can lead better lives.
