Autism Services Waterloo Region (ASWR) is a group of families and agencies committed to building a stronger community for families of children with autism in the Waterloo Region. Members of this group include family advocates, as well as staff from Developmental Services agencies, Mental Health agencies, School Boards, the Ministry of Children and Youth Services, the Ministry of Community and Social Services and other community partners working together to support families to make informed decisions  and promote inclusivity in the community.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) released new statistics on autism this past Thursday, March 29, 2012. See posting for new figures!

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) released new statistics on autism this past Thursday, March 29, 2012. The new figures for autism are:

 - 1 in 88 children (11.3 per 1,000) have been identified with an autism spectrum disorder (ASD).

- There has been a 23% increase in the rate of autism since the CDC's last report in 2009. And, a 78% increase since their first report in 2007.

- ASDs are almost 5 times more common among boys (1 in 54)…
