ABA/IBI (Behaviour Therapy)


IBI: ErinoakKids provides IBI for children who have been diagnosed toward the severe end of the autism spectrum. Intense instruction is provided across developmental areas, including cognition, language, social and self-care skills. Teaching generally occurs in a centre-based environment, in both one-to-one and small group formats for approximately 20 -25 hours per week.

ABA: ErinoakKids Children and adolescents of age 0 – 17 (up to 18th birthday) are eligible for Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA)-based Services and Supports if they have a confirmation of an Autism Spectrum Disorder diagnosis and live within the Ministry of Children and Youth Services Central Region of Ontario, which is comprised of Peel, Halton, Dufferin, Waterloo and Wellington. Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) based Services and Supports for children with an Autism Spectrum Disorder are designed to help these children develop skills in key areas and to address behaviours that interfere with functioning. ABA-based Services and Supports focus on the skill area requiring immediate attention. Services are provided for 2-4 hours per week, for a period of 2-6 months.

A Balanced Approach: We provide Home-Based and Centre-based IBI Services for children with autism in the Kitchener-Waterloo, Cambridge, Guelph, and surrounding areas.  A Balanced Approach is an approved DFO (Direct Funding Option) provider for the provincial I.B.I. initiative.

A Bridge to Potential: I am an ABA provider and I focus on social skills, communication skills, coping and life skills.

Best provides comprehensive services to create an effective home-based ABA program. BitKids: The focus of most IBI programs includes a mix of communication, social, life, and academic skills as determined by the family and professional team. Therapy is driven by data, and all progress is monitored and analyzed to ensure that your child is getting the most out of therapy.

Breaking Barriers: Breaking Barriers works with families in the Waterloo region who have children diagnosed with an Autism Spectrum Disorder, developmental delays or behavioural concerns to develop a comprehensive intervention that can address academics, social skills and life skills. Breaking Barriers’ goal is to help children reach their full potential.

Early Autism Services: We provide individualized home-based ABA/IBI therapy for children with autism and their families. Our comprehensive program is designed to help children develop skills across many domains such as: behaviour planning, communication, social skills, self-help, safety skills, pre-academic skills and play skills. Leaps & Bounds: Leaps and Bounds has experienced and qualified professionals, and licensed psychologists offering the highest quality of services and programs to individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder and other related special needs. Behaviour Consulting


DSRC Behaviour Consultation: Developmental Services Resource Centre – Waterloo Region (DSRC) works with parents and primary care providers in learning practical ways to prevent unwanted behaviours. We focus our efforts before the unwanted behaviour occurs. This is often a more effective approach than using consequences or punishment.


BitKids: I can help by creating a custom plan based on your child’s specific needs, skill level and interests using principles of Applied Behaviour Analysis.

Firefly Behavioural Consultation Services: May help if your child engages in problematic behaviour that does not seem to be decreasing on its own.  They can support parents/caregivers in toilet training, struggles with eating or trying new foods, daily routines like dressing or teeth brushing, and classroom support.

Meaningful Steps Behaviour Consulting provides ABA/IBI therapy to children with Autism Spectrum Disorders in the Waterloo, Kitchener, Cambridge and surrounding areas.

Counselling/Mental Health supports

Central Access Points:

Front Door Mental Health: Access to child and youth mental health services. At Front Door, you will find a welcoming environment where we work with young people of all backgrounds to build, strengthen, and sustain mental wellness. Together with you, we open new doors that break stigma and lead to brighter futures. If you have a concern or a question – this is the place to start. No problem is too big or too small.

Here 24/7 is your front door to the addictions, mental health and crisis services provided by 12 agencies across Waterloo – Wellington – Dufferin. All you need to do is reach out to us. We do the intake, assessment, referral, crisis, waitlist and appointment booking work for these important programs. It’s our job to be your guide, figure out your needs and help you navigate the system. This leaves you free to focus on maintaining hope and pursuing recovery. Canadian Mental Health Association Waterloo Wellington Dufferin provides a full care system for those with addictions, mental health or developmental needs. We serve everyone from children to adults to seniors, all under one roof.

Counselling Collaborative Program: The Region of Waterloo has agreements with seven community counselling agencies to provide counselling services. If you are currently receiving Ontario Works or are in the Ontario Disability Support Program you are eligible to receive up to eight counselling sessions free of charge.

Partners program (intake through Front Door) is an intensive home-based family counselling and support service offered to families with children between the ages of 7 and 18 years of age.  The Partners Program works to preserve a family’s ability to continue living together. By reinforcing family strengths and coping skills, Partners enhances the capacity of parents to function both as a family unit and as part of the community.

Cambridge Memorial Hospital provides supportive and therapeutic services to people in Cambridge and North Dumfries who are experiencing mental health difficulties.

Grand River Hospital: The regional inpatient unit consists of 13 secure beds dedicated to children and adolescents under the age of 18 who live anywhere within the Waterloo-Wellington counties. Our inpatient services are located within a beautiful, bright environment with a therapeutic focus on short-term assessment and stabilization for children and adolescents presenting with severe and acute mental health symptoms.

Jazmine Tufford-Singh provides art therapy and psychotherapy to clients  of all ages who have experienced trauma, children with autism, children with anxiety or challenges in self-regulation, and children experiencing transitions such as divorce or a loss.

Music Therapy


Firefly Therapy Services is currently offering group and individual Music Therapy options.

KiJengle offers music therapy services in the home as well as at their studio location.  Group and individual sessions are both available.

Occupational Therapy


KidsAbility: Occupational Therapists at KidsAbility work with children and youth (birth to age 18) who are having difficulty doing an activity. An Occupational Therapist will consider the child, the activity and the environment to minimize the challenges and increase productivity.

Bennett Occupational Services is a private pediatric service that provides assistance to children between the ages of 0-18 years who live in Kitchener-Waterloo (and some locations in Wellington and Perth counties).

Creative OT is an organization committed to providing high quality Occupational Therapy services in our clinic, your home, community or school environments. We provide Pediatric and MVA Occupational Therapy services in the Kitchener, Waterloo, Guelph and Cambridge areas.

Pathways Therapy offers personalized physiotherapy and occupational therapy for children and adults with neurological, orthopedic, and respiratory conditions.

Social Skills Groups


ASPEN Social Skills is a social skills training group for 12 to up to 18 year old youth with a diagnosis on the Autism Spectrum including Asperger’s Syndrome, High Functioning Autism, Pervasive Developmental Disorder (PDD) or Non-verbal learning disability. Staff create a safe and supportive environment for youth to learn and practice social skills through a combination of role-playing, group interaction and community outings.

Social Skills Groups at DSRC are facilitated by the Autism Services Consultant for children age 11-18, who have Autism Spectrum Disorders.  Groups are run out of Sunbeam Centre.  For more information call 519-741-1121 or email


A Balanced Approach offers Friendship Groups for children who experience difficulties navigating the social world around them. Our groups are not ASD specific; they are geared toward children who have strong language skills but may require extra support developing social skills. Children have the opportunity to learn important social skills in a fun, supportive environment with their peers.

Breaking Barriers – behaviour-based social skills groups for children of all ages and abilities! We are a behaviour-based social skill group that is rooted in Applied Behaviour Analysis principles focusing on the fundamentals of appropriate group behaviour and peer interactions. The Sociables makes learning social skills fun and engaging. We build on existing skills to ensure the children are learning the foundational elements of social interactions and applying them in their interactions with others. The learners are matched with similar peers to encourage relationship building.

Firefly Therapy Services Social Skills Groups use evidence based practices to teach your child intermediate to advanced Social Thinking® concepts using fun activities that are motivating and relevant to the children in the group.

McLennan Speech & Language: Social skills groups focus on improving each child’s ability to communicate clearly and effectively. The children learn to practise essential communication and social skills that enhances the quality of their personal relationships… At home, at school and in the community.

Speak your Mind KW offers social skills groups to help teach children how to think socially!  Social thinking is what we do when we interact with people.  We have to THINK about partners in order to be successful in interacting with them.

Speech-Language Pathology


KidsAbility provides Preschool Speech and Language Services for children from birth to senior kindergarten entry who have difficulty learning to communicate or interacting with others. This government-funded program, provided through KidsAbility as the lead agency, is free of charge to families living in Waterloo Region.
