Disability Tax Credit Certificate
Individuals who have an impairment in physical or mental functions that is severe and prolonged, or their representative, use Form T2201 to apply for the disability amount by completing part A of the form.
The disability amount is a non-refundable tax credit used to reduce income tax payable on your return. This amount includes a supplement for persons under 18 at the end of the year.
All or part of this amount may be transferred to your spouse or common-law partner, or another supporting person. For details on the disability amount, visit the cra website.
-Tax experts advise backdating the Disability Tax Certificate to the childs birthdate. You can apply for up to 10 years backpayments and payments vary but typically range about 2400 dollars per year- added by Valerie McIntyre
