Focus Group for New Alternative School in Waterloo Region

As many of you are aware there's a new school coming to town! Oak Bridge Academy is a newly established, non-profit alternative school in Waterloo Region for children and youth with autism spectrum disorder, ADHD, and other learning exceptionalities. An important part of our workplan involves engaging our community in the vision of Oak Bridge Academy’s educational programming and services.

Do you need to look at a challenge you are facing with a new perspective? Would you like to bounce ideas off someone else who can relate to what you, or your child, is going through? Perhaps Cristina can help. As an adult with Asperger’s Syndrome who has mentoring and self-advocacy experience, Cristina would be happy to discuss your concerns and questions. While her personal experience is rooted in Autism Spectrum Disorder, she is happy to meet with anyone with special needs or exceptionalities, their families, or professional supports, to offer new insight and ideas to help you move forward.” See below for more information.

1:1 Summer Support Worker Reimbursement Fund Now Open

Autism Ontario is happy to announce that the 2017 One to One Summer Support Worker Reimbursement Fund is now open for applications. We will be accepting all applications received between May 1, and June 2, 2017 and have a random draw to determine eligibility. The 2017 One-to-One Summer Support Worker Reimbursement Fund is available to Ontario families of children or youth with ASD who retain the services of a one-to-one support worker for their child to attend a community summer camp or summer program. "Giving families of children with autism the option of either using government-funded services or receiving direct funding to pay for therapy may be part of Ontario's new autism program, the minister in charge said Monday. The Ontario Autism Program is set to start this June and Children and Youth Services Minister Michael Coteau said the implementation team is working on including a direct funding model." Go Sensory Friendly on World Autism Acceptance Day - April 2

World Autism Acceptance Day is on April 2nd, 2017. It is a time to celebrate and promote understanding about neurodiversity and Autism Spectrum Disorder. This year, instead of organizing a singular event as has been done in the past, we are asking local organizations to go SENSORY-FRIENDLY on April 2nd! Event at Centre in the Square

Centre In The Square and Magnusmode have partnered to help support people seeing a show at Centre In The Square. Magnusmode’s app, MagnusCards, supports people exploring community sites and services by using pictures of those locations and step-by-step instructions. Guests will be able to use MagnusCards to do activities, including entering the theatre, finding their seats, preparing for a show, what to expect during a show, and many more! After guided activities, guests are invited to see the show!
